"Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides" Breaking Records in May 20's Weekend Box-Office | "Bridesmaids" Overcome "Thor"!

#1 in May 20's Weekend Box-Office was "Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides," yet it still didn't quite live up to all of the expectations. Keep in mind, the film is both a sequel and comes in 3D and, according to a Disney exec, 3D is "very soft" in the U.S. and Canada. Hence the $90.1 million "Pirates 4" earned nationally in its opening weekend. Though the numbers aren't slight, compare them to Disney's expectations of an $100 million weekend and the $114 million 2007's "Pirates 3" earned during it's opening Memorial day weekend. Though the film didn't meet its "potential" here in the U.S., overseas it is now the best global, international, and domestic opening of 2011.

In it's opening weekend, "Pirates 4" earned the titles of #1 biggest 5-day international opening (earning $256.3 million) and #4 biggest global opening of all time (earning $346.4 million).

"Thor" Reigns Supreme in May 13th Weekend Box-Office | "Bridesmaids" Hold Their Own

"Thor" is holding strong in its #1 position at the Box-Office, making another $34.5 million and reaching the $100 million mark nationally. Though "Bridesmaids" wasn't tough enough to beat it, the film debuted strong in its opening weekend at #2, earning $24.4 million. The female-driven film over performed, akin to other sleeper R-rated comedies such as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," which opened to $21.4 million and went on to make $109.4 million. Do you think "Bridesmaids" will go on to be as big of a hit?

Stage AE opened it's outdoors last night, Wednesday May 11, and the summer music season has now officially begun.

Social Distortion was on-hand, along with 4,000 spectators, for the opening of the new venue's outdoor amphitheater, which has now kicked off a long list of acts making their way to Pittsburgh. Mart Hart, the Steelers Director of Planning & Development, says "Stage AE is going to provide entertainment opportunity for over 40 events for a summertime series…That's going to attract a lot of Western Pennsylvania residents, but it's going to bring a lot of tourists to the North Shore to see what a great place that area has become."

Cirque du Soleil Totem begins tonight, May 12 in Pittsburgh and will continue through to June 5. The event is located in a big tent at Grand Chapiteau, near 20th and Smallman streets in the Strip District.

Writer and Comic Sean Collier To Be New Associate Editor of Pittsburgh Magazine

Sean Collier is proving to be quite the force to be reckoned with, much like his father, Sports Writer, Comedian, and Speaker Gene Collier. Sean will be taking on the position of the new Associate Editor of Pittsburgh Magazine in June, replacing the departing Sean Conboy.

A 2011 Golden Quill Award Finalist for columns with Pittsburgh Sports Report, Sean has freelanced for Pittsburgh Magazine since late 2009. This saw him regularly contributing a column on Film and Nightlife, the nightlife blog After Dark, and recently taking on the production of the weekend e-newsletter PMWeekend.

His contributions for Pittsburgh Magazine include features on local businesses, web content on sports and restaurants, interviews with Pittsburgh comic and CBS star Billy Gardell, and the November 2010 cover story 20 Hot Bars.

May 6's Weekend Box-Office was ruled by the comic-book inspired "Thor," which brought in $66 million nationally and $176 internationally. "Thor" received a B+ from CinemaScore and revolves around the "powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth."

The next Pittsburgh Power Football game is this Saturday, May 7.

Beginning at 8:00pm, the Pittsburgh Power will be playing the Spokane Shock at the Consol Energy Center. It will also be Public Safety Appreciation Night, complete with "We will never forget" wristbands and Competition.

The Fourth Annual Fat Head's Saloon Brewer's Ball will be held at I.B.E.W. #5, in the Circuit Center Ballroom this Friday, May 6. Expecting more than 350 guests, The Brewer's Ball is a local beer tasting event to help benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Aside from delicious food, fine craft beers and beers poured by microbreweries and brewpubs, expect lively auctions and entertainment. Frank Murgia will be master of ceremonies.

Craig Wolfley and Tunch Ilkin will be conducting the Walk for the Homeless on Saturday, May 7 at the Trib Total Media Amphitheater. The Walk for the Homeless will be a 10K Walk along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail on the South Side. Proceeds will benefit the Light of Life Rescue Mission.

Registration begins at 8:30am, the Walk begins at 10:00am, and festivities (refreshments, various entertainment, awards and Steelers autographs) begin at Noon.

"We had a great time roasting Coach Bob Huggins on Wednesday, April 27!
