Johnny Depp’s Rango ruled March 4's weekend box office in its opening weekend, earning $38 million and beating Matt Damon’s Adjustment Bureau and the fairytale-based Beastly, both in their opening weekends as well. Star of Beastly, Alex Pettyfer, has two films in the top ten this week; he is also the star of I Am Number Four, which came in at number nine.

This weekend’s #1 movie, Rango, joins together aforementioned Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski, who have collaborated on the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Interestingly, according to a USA Today poll, the commercial for Rango that aired during the Superbowl ranked higher than all the other movie ads including Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 and Transformers 3.

Rango takes on a different approach to the traditional animated movie, instead having the actors literally perform their roles. Director Verbinski uses ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) for the film, making it the first fully animated film to use the visual effect. Rango is aimed more for ages 6-12 and adults rather than young children, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. Did anyone check it out this weekend? If so, what did you think?

If you didn’t see Rango, what did you see? Any recommendations? Let us know…
