In preparation for Sunday, February 27th’s Academy Awards, Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue presents us with actual Academy members' votes. Instead of seeing the same names repeated over and over, getting a glimpse into the minds of the members lets us in on the idea of an upset at this year’s show. The four academy members we get to see include an actor, a writer, a director, and an executive. Compare and contrast their votes and see what you think will happen at Sunday’s awards show.

The Actor
Best Picture: The Fighter
Best Director: Ethan and Joel Coen, True Grit
Best Actor: James Franco, 127 Hours
Best Actress: Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale, The Fighter
Best Supporting Actress: Adams, The Fighter

The Writer
Best Picture: Black Swan
Best Director: David Fincher, The Social Network
Best Actor: Javier Bardem, Biutiful
Best Actress: Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale, The Fighter
Best Supporting Actress: Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom

The Director
Best Picture: The King’s Speech
Best Director: David Fincher, The Social Network
Best Actor: Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Best Actress: Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Best Supporting Actor: Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech
Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams, The Fighter

The Executive
Best Picture: The Social Network
Best Director: David Fincher, The Social Network
Best Actor: Colin Firth, The King’s Speech
Best Actress: Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale, The Fighter
Best Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo, The Fighter

So, it seems that this may be a much closer race than I thought. Do you think there are going to be some surprises at the Academy Awards? Or do you expect things to go seemingly as planned? Will “The King’s Speech” and “The Social Network” sweep over the ceremony? Will Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress go to the obvious or will there be some upsets? Who will be favored? Who will be snubbed?

I will leave you with some Oscar facts from Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “Oscar, By The Numbers:”
Voting Members: 5,755. [Above is the opinion of 4, so who knows what can happen.]
Competitive Awards Categories: 24
Height of Oscar Statuette: 13 ½ inches.
Weight of Oscar Statuette: 8 ½ pounds.
Statuettes Created for Sunday’s Show: 50.
First Televised Show: March 19, 1953.
Statuettes presented since first Academy Awards: 2,768.

So, what do you think is going to happen this Sunday? After all these predictions and glimpses into voting, what are your thoughts? Let us know.

Pick up this week’s issue (February 25 Issue #1143) of Entertainment Weekly to read “How the Academy Votes" and see the detailed reasons as to why the Academy members made the choices they did.
