Pittsburgh’s own, and a comedian talent network has had great success with, Billy Gardell, is featured in this month’s WHIRL Magazine. He discusses his love of the city (he hails from Swissvale), and credits his hometown for shaping him into a successful and hardworking comedian/actor, now starring in the hit CBS show Mike and Molly. Billy says, “The support that I’ve gotten from Pittsburgh is overwhelming. I mean it literally fills my heart...It also reminds me of who I am, and I take great pride in not embarrassing this city. I always want to be able to come home.”
Gardell expresses his gratitude for being a part of WHIRL magazine and details his trips back to his hometown: a trip through Swissvale to see his Nana’s old house. Paying a visit to old friends, and then heading to Ruby’s Submarines for a sandwich. No matter the success, Billy Gardell is humble and loyal to his roots.
His newest comedy special, “Halftime,” was filmed at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh, where Billy said “It was like capturing a really incredible power in a bottle. Pittsburgh came out and supported me so well. It was like a tailgate party. There were Terrible Towels and people screaming. It was wonderful.” So, Billy Gardell’s love of Pittsburgh seems to be reciprocated.
