Coconut Water Craze

May 27, 2010

My introduction to coconut water was, of course, through the celebrity circuit. From Madonna to True Blood’s uber-couple Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin, I’ve seen the drink being carried around by too many celebrities to count. The only factor I heard regarding the drink was that coconut water boosted your metabolism and fought fluid retention…wonderful.
(Image Courtesy of Sweaty Betty PR)

Non-fat and low in calories and sugar, it is understandable as to why celebrities are flocking towards the drink, and why it’s easily becoming part of a new diet craze. But the health benefits are fairly heavy: coconut water contains the same five electrolytes found in human blood. Compare that to Gatorade, which only contains two. Coconut water is full of nutrients and rehydrating, the perfect antedote for anything dehydrating: a.k.a. a long night of drinking, exercising, basic living, etc., etc.

With sales topping $50 million last year, celebrities can’t be the only ones cashing in on this coconut water phenomenon. But will it last? With cynics arguing against claims such as coconut water boosting the immune system and lowering the risk of cancer, only time will tell. Coconut water may dehydrate like any other craze.

Being that they are nice guys, they decided to upload the ENTIRE album, 'Man in the Photograph' to our newly designed website, WWW.BOULEVARDOFTHEALLIES.COM where you can hear the whole thing!!

PRESS:
“Their lead singer has a voice that could break many a heart and their infectious catchy tunes will surely be on the radio very soon.” – Abandon Theatre

“Lindsey’s pitch and range were remarkable; convincing me he’s got one of the region’s best voices.” – Scott Tady, Allegheny Times

ABOUT:
Sixty-five years after their grandfathers served with the Allies in World War II, Joel and Jim met for the first time in a bar on the South Side of Pittsburgh.

Joel Lindsey had moved from London, England for the love of a woman. Jim had moved from Buffalo, NY for the love of engineering. They both shared a desire to create good, listenable, meaningful music. Joel’s original songs, rhythmic guitar playing, and powerful voice met Jim’s bass lines and harmonies to create the basis of their vocally driven acoustic sound

The duo worked together on arrangements and styles, and agonized over who and what was needed to complete their sound. As fate would have it, they found themselves driving to their first radio appearance, without a band name, down a curiously-named road in Pittsburgh. And thus, Boulevard of the Allies began.

From hand drums to drum kit, fiddle to alto sax, distorted guitar to distorted mandolin, the duo found talented, like minded musicians (the “Allies“) to provide the needed melodies, rhythms, and chords to complete the sound. They spent three years gigging, writing, recording, and obsessing with their musical allies.

On May 28th 2010, they release their first CD, Man in the Photograph at Club Cafe, 7PM. This is followed up by a second release show May 30th at Borders in east liberty, 2PM. The album is the culmination of all of their effort. It is also their first step down the road that paved itself back in 2007 – a road named Boulevard of the Allies.

'Lost' Writer Reveals The Answers. Hmmm?

May 26, 2010
Source Credits - Dark UFO/Spoiler TV

---

A person claiming to be a writer on 'Lost' posted what he claims to be the answers to the 6 seasons of 'Lost.' Not sure this person is really a wrter from the show but it is a very thorough explanation and seems to makes sense if that is possible.

Someone From Bad Robot's Take
by empire on may 24, 2010 10:40 pm

This is making the rounds, not sure how true it is...but a worthwhile read if so

I can finally throw in my two cents! I've had to bite my tongue for far too long. Also, hopefully I can answer some of John's questions about Dharma and the "pointless breadcrumbs" that really, weren't so pointless ...

First ...
The Island:

It was real. Everything that happened on the island that we saw throughout the 6 seasons was real. Forget the final image of the plane crash, it was put in purposely to f*&k with people's heads and show how far the show had come. They really crashed. They really survived. They really discovered Dharma and the Others. The Island keeps the balance of good and evil in the world. It always has and always will perform that role. And the Island will always need a "Protector". Jacob wasn't the first, Hurley won't be the last. However, Jacob had to deal with a malevolent force (MIB) that his mother, nor Hurley had to deal with. He created the devil and had to find a way to kill him -- even though the rules prevented him from actually doing so.

Thus began Jacob's plan to bring candidates to the Island to do the one thing he couldn't do. Kill the MIB. He had a huge list of candidates that spanned generations. Yet everytime he brought people there, the MIB corrupted them and caused them to kill one another. That was until Richard came along and helped Jacob understand that if he didn't take a more active role, then his plan would never work.

Enter Dharma -- which I'm not sure why John is having such a hard time grasping. Dharma, like the countless scores of people that were brought to the island before, were brought there by Jacob as part of his plan to kill the MIB. However, the MIB was aware of this plan and interferred by "corrupting" Ben. Making Ben believe he was doing the work of Jacob when in reality he was doing the work of the MIB. This carried over into all of Ben's "off-island" activities. He was the leader. He spoke for Jacob as far as they were concerned. So the "Others" killed Dharma and later were actively trying to kill Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley and all the candidates because that's what the MIB wanted. And what he couldn't do for himself.

Dharma was originally brought in to be good. But was turned bad by MIB's corruption and eventually destroyed by his pawn Ben. Now, was Dharma only brought there to help Jack and the other Canditates on their overall quest to kill Smokey? Or did Jacob have another list of Canidates from the Dharma group that we were never aware of? That's a question that is purposley not answered because whatever answer the writers came up with would be worse than the one you come up with for yourself. Still ... Dharma's purpose is not "pointless" or even vague. Hell, it's pretty blantent.

Still, despite his grand plan, Jacob wanted to give his "candidates" (our Lostaways) the one thing he, nor his brother, were ever afforded: free will. Hence him bringing a host of "candidates" through the decades and letting them "choose" which one would actually do the job in the end. Maybe he knew Jack would be the one to kill Flocke and that Hurley would be the protector in the end. Maybe he didn't. But that was always the key question of the show: Fate vs Free-will. Science vs Faith. Personally I think Jacob knew from the beginning what was going to happen and that everyone played a part over 6 seasons in helping Jack get to the point where he needed to be to kill Smokey and make Hurley the protector -- I know that's how a lot of the writers viewed it. But again, they won't answer that (nor should they) because that ruins the fun.

In the end, Jack got to do what he always wanted to do from the very first episode of the show: Save his fellow Lostaways. He got Kate and Sawyer off the island and he gave Hurley the purpose in life he'd always been missing. And, in Sideways world (which we'll get to next) he in fact saved everyone by helping them all move on ...

Now...

ABC Tells Viewers Not to Mind the Oceanic 815 Crash Photos at the End of 'Lost' LA Times Show Tracker blog

So those images of the Oceanic 815 plane crash that ran at the very end of the "Lost" finale? The ones that some viewers interpreted as meaning no one survived the crash and the last six seasons were a fantasy? Well, ABC executives want everyone to know that the images were added to help segue into the news and actually have no meaning, reports the Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker blog.
"The images shown during the end credits of the 'Lost' finale, which included shots of Oceanic 815 on a deserted beach, were not part of the final story but were a visual aid to allow the viewer to decompress before heading into the news," an ABC representative said in an email to the blog.
The decision to place the eerie images at the conclusion of the show's finale was just a "nostalgic, transitional touch" dreamed up by ABC executives, and not a plot point from the show's producers, the article says.

Officials are exploring the possibility of opening the arena's distinctive retractable roof one last time to close down the 48-year-old building this summer.

Jay Roberts, general manager of Mellon Arena/SMG, confirmed Monday that the idea is under consideration, but he added there are plenty of hurdles in the way that could derail the effort.

Christina Aguilera cancels summer tour
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
By Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Christina Aguilera has canceled her summer "Bionic" tour due to lack of preparation time, according to the promoter.

"Christina Aguilera's summer tour has been moved to 2011 due to prior commitments that the singer had made to her film, 'Burlesque,' and to the promotion of her new album, 'Bionic,' " tour promoter Live Nation announced in a statement. "The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour date this wasn't possible."

The tour was scheduled to stop at the First Niagara Pavilion on Aug. 3.

The singer from Wexford will release "Bionic" on June 8 and star with Cher in the movie musical "Burlesque" in November.

Refunds for the tour are available at the point of purchase.

'Lost' Series Finale theories and thoughts from almost everybody on the internet.

Namaste, my lostafarian friends.

It has been quite a ride since September 22nd, 2004. 121.5 hours and 6 seasons later 'Lost' is over and many of us our still lost. The internet is buzzing with a mix of satisfaction, disgust and dizziness at the many thoughts and theories as to the way it ended and what has happened the past six years.  Many folks like myself feel different after sleeping on it and reading the different takes.

Immediately after watching the finale I thought my theory that I have been sticking to was the answer.

(These folks are lost in life not so much lost on an Island and they are ALL dead from the original plane crash.  All we were viewing was them in purgatory seeing flashbacks of of their life and past mistakes then seeing the flash forward of what life would be if they survived the crash and returned home from the Island and the flash sideways/alternate life was the life they could have had if they followed a different path. They were in purgatory waiting to be judged and given a chance to choose a path.)

BUT boom, as I read more this morning and break down what Christian Shepard said to his son Jack at the church it is a different meaning to the end.

Jack has a tender conversation with the man he had clashed with so often before.
"I don't understand," says Jack. "You died."

"Yes, I did."

"Then how are you here right now?"

"How are YOU here?" his father (John Terry) replies.

"I died, too," says Jack, beginning to weep.

"That's OK, son."

And yet it's all real, his father assures him.

"Everything that's ever happened to you is real. All those people in the church, they're all real, too."

"They're all dead?" Jack asks.

"Everyone dies sometime, kiddo," his father replies gently.

HERE are a two very similar fan postings on the 'Lost' Facebook fan page.
======
Lost Facebook fan writes..
I am confused why people are saying they were dead all along. I guess I thought it was pretty clear in the end that they were all dead in the "alternate timeline." But the regular timeline, which included the original Oceanic crash, life on the island, coming back to the island, skipping through time, etc...THAT was th...e all real. Christian Shephard said that all the people in the church were dead, "some before [Jack's] time, some long after him." In confirmation of this, outside the church Hurley said to Ben, "You made a great #2." And Ben replied, "and you made a great #1." This would confirm that the 2 of them protected and lead the island for an undetermined amount of time in real life, before their death.

I thought the ending was brilliant. I didn't expect the writers to perfectly answer every question...if they did, what would we have to talk about?!

Lost Facebook fan writes..
I think the sideways losties were living the lives they would have chosen had they been given a second chance at the time of the explosion... based on their deepest selves. Sayid, out of guilt, must watch the woman he loves be married to his brother; Jack gets to be the father he never had

Lost Facebook fan writes..
I thought the ending was awesome. Everything that happened on the island was real. It was not purgatory. Christian even says this. The flash sideways was a place between heaven and hell that the losties created to find the love they lost and make amends before heading to Heaven or a better place. Hurley even tells... Ben that he made a great #2 indicating that they lived on after Jack dies. Everyone died at different times in their lives and all met in the afterlife in the flash sideways. Loved the ending.
======

BUT,  this seems to be a popular choice of fans and critic's of what it all means. That everything that happened on the island and in the flashbacks and flash forwards was real.  I personally am okay with this but a little disappointed that time travel and the island moving really happened. I personally liked my original thought that the series was not so much about science fiction but a retelling of the lives and paths chosen of the passengers who all died in the crash. I do feel that the show chose a path of heavier science fiction in seasons 4, 5 and 6.  Feeling like the fans were sniffing out the plot being attached to religion and faith they added all the science fiction, time travel and numerous characters like Miles, Daniel Faraday and Eloise Hawking to throw the fan base off-track as well as extend the show.  Executive producer Carlton Cuse on ESPN'S "The BS Report" Bill Simmons podcast just last week said that Seasons 2 and 3 were slow and strung out and had many filler episodes (Expose' with Nikki and Paulo) because they did not know if the show was going to get picked up and extended by ABC so they were stalling with episodes and ideas advancing the story.

Both executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have said they will remain silent and not talk about the ending or the show. Like David Chase did on 'The Soprano's' they will leave it up to interpretation and debate. I like this stand as the Internet is pulsating with chatter and debate today. So maybe they were not all dead from the beginning. I am not alone in thinking that they were. Only the creators and writers know the true answer so what I am writing and so many others are writing in individual interpretation and opinion.

I truly hope that we see some sort of lifetime achievement honor is awarded to all of the folks responsible for a fantastically crafted six year journey. No other show has intertwined a television show and its audience with the Internet rabbit hole more brilliantly than 'Lost.'

You will see a bunch of links below the photos and these are some of the best spots in the biz at breaking down 'Lost.'  Check them out and have fun in the rabbit hole.

I close by saying you can now stop pushing the button, see you in another life, brotha, let go and remember, every series dies sometime, kiddo.  -- Frank Murgia
