Jimmy Krenn Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from Animal Friends

On Sunday, February 28th Animal Friends of Pittsburgh presented their 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award to WDVE’s Jimmy Krenn.

The award, given only eight times in the organization’s 66 year history, is a tribute to Krenn’s compassionate dedication to the advancement, protection and welfare of unwanted, neglected and abused pets. Previous award-winners include Animal Friends’ founder, Alice Richardson; Animal Care & Welfare Chief Humane Officer Ed Blotzer; Kennel Manager Eula Houston; Long-time animal advocate Lloyd Gluck; and PA State Dog Warden Jim Brush.

Krenn’s work with the organization has improved the lives of thousands of animals throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. Through his unique blend of comedy and compassion, he has been an outspoken advocate, raising awareness and funds as Honorary Chair of the annual ‘Bark in the Park’ for the past ten years as well as being the ‘face’ of Animal Friends in a variety of fundraising efforts and promotions advocating adoption and awareness. Krenn and his wife, Hedy live the mission of the organization in private as well, being the proud parents of six rescue animals, including the infamously adorable, Gizmo (the rat terrier who had ‘DVE morning show fans combing the city when he went missing in December of ’08.)

Upon accepting the award, Krenn said, “It's such an honor to be associated with incredible people like the staff and volunteers at Animal Friends. The way this no-kill shelter provides such a loving home for these abandoned and abused animals is an example of the power of the human spirit”.
