JOHN KNIGHT BIO:
At a time in life when most males discover puberty, John Knight, with his high grade-point average and low-brow humor, discovered the punch line ~ he literally was meant to be a career comedian. He started performing stand-up in his senior year of college, and dropped out nine credits short of his degree, when faced with a long line at registration: "I was a history major in college, which means you have two options when you get out of school. You can either teach history, or go on Jeopardy and hope for the best."

Instead, John has appeared on Showtime's Comedy Club Network, Star Search and A&E's Comedy on the Road. Happily, he found a career where a bad attitude is rewarded. John gets laughs with a routine culled from the classic comic format of everyday distractions, stretched to their exaggerated limits. Within the first few minutes, Knight will describe himself to the audience as "negative", "cynical" and a "pessimist". A downbeat attitude from a comedian rarely sounds so harmless or hilarious as it does from this man!

Whether entertaining with pure stand-up comedy on stage or performing his “world’s worst motivational speaker” set for a corporate audience, John’s off-beat humor hits home with even the most diverse of audiences.

My good friend and hilarious stand-up comic Jerry Wilson (who just got back from his second tour in Iraq) will be opening. This is going to be a great show, but if you've already made plans to go to a halloween party at Tiki Lounge dressed up as a Patrick Swazye Zombie in a Chip n Dale outfit, I totally understand. I hope to see you there though... but the Patrick Swazye Zombie is a pretty good costume.

Donnie Iris rocks into beer production

Beaver County’s resident rock star is about to become a beer maker.

Donnie Iris will introduce his King Cool Light brand of beer Nov. 20 at a free concert at Diesel nightclub on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

“I can’t wait, man,” Iris said. “It’s going to be a blast.”

Bearing the motto “A Light Beer that Rocks,” King Cool Light is a 122-calorie, caramel-colored lager that will be sold in the Pittsburgh area.

Iris’ longtime keyboardist and songwriting partner Mark Avsec hatched the idea last year while traveling to a gig in Kittanning. Though, after months of taste tests, it was Iris himself who approved the final recipe upon sampling it in September on his back porch in Patterson Heights.

“It’s not like standard light beer, it’s got flavor,” Iris said.

King Cool Light publicist Jim Lachimia said this won’t be a homebrew made in somebody’s basement.

“It’s a legitimate beer that will be professionally brewed and then marketed and distributed in this area very soon,” Lachimia said.

King Cool Ltd. entered a brewing agreement with Lion Brewing Co. in Wilkes-Barre.

There was blood at the wickets this pre-Halloween, as the corpses of every one of the weekend's new movies littered the lobbies of North American theaters. The Saw torture-porn franchise took the biggest hit, with its sixth installment getting chainsawed by the Paranormal Activity phenomenon. Another horror entry, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, was D.O.A. Astro Boy, the third autumn movie based on a kids, pop-culture touchstone, didn't fly; and neither did the aviation bio-pic Amelia, which took off at low altitude and instantly crashed. As for the weekend's goriest psychodrama, Lars von Trier,s Antichrist, it performed anemically in limited release. If you're keeping score of the weekend body count, that's Trick: 5; Treat: 1.

A 14-year NFL veteran and Pittsburgh Steeler all-pro offensive lineman, chosen as team captain for 3 years, Tunch Ilkin allowed just 2.5 sacks in a 3 season span from 1986 to 1988, when he was finally given the recognition he deserved with a Pro Bowl invite. He had started 85 of 86 games in one span after being named starter. Tunch now works as a broadcaster for Fox Sports Pittsburgh and the Steelers network of television and radio affiliates (Tunch is joined by former teammate Craig Wolfley on the Fox Sports show. "In the Locker Room with Tunch and Wolf." This winning duo is also part of the Clear Channel Steelers Radio Network, broadcasting live during games on 102.5 WDVE). Tunch also is Senior Vice President of the Athletic Training Network, which offers online and interactive athletic, health and fitness programming to coaches and athletes in schools and at home.


CRAIG WOLFLEY -Pittsburgh Steelers

Craig Wolfley is a 12-year veteran of the NFL who played 10 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and 2 years with the Minnesota Vikings. Craig was recently selected as a member of the Steeler's All-Century Team (voted by Pittsburgh fans as a “team” of the best players to ever wear a Steeler uniform) and chosen to be part of the Syracuse University 20th Century All-Star Team. Wolfley successfully competed in the World's Strongest Man and the NFL Strongest Man competitions, and placed 2nd in the first professional Sumo contest held on the North American continent. He holds a black belt in Freestyle Jiu Jitsu and has over 19 years of martial arts training.

Where The Wild Things Are Wins Box Office.

LOS ANGELES — "Where the Wild Things Are" proved a bigger hit with adult audiences than family crowds as the adaptation of Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book debuted at No. 1 with $32.5 million.

Moviegoers 18 and older accounted for 43 percent of the audience, while parents with children made up 27 percent, according to distributor Warner Bros.

Overture Films earned the No. 2 spot with Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler's vengeance thriller "Law Abiding Citizen," which debuted with $21.3 million.

Tailgate Pong is a game in which players throw a ping-pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup on the other end. The game typically consists of two two-player teams and multiple cups set up on each side in triangle formation. This is no official way to set up the cups, but there are usually six or ten plastic cups arranged in a triangle on each side. The goal of the game is to eliminate the other teams' cups before one's own cups are eliminated. When a ball lands in a cup, that cup is removed from the table. Play order can vary in two ways – either both players on one team take a turn followed by both players on the other team taking theirs; or one player per team takes a turn, alternating back and forth between teams.

Pittsburgh, with the Super Bowl-winning Steelers and Stanley Cup-winning Penguins leading the way in 2009, is No. 1 in Sporting News’ 16th annual Best Sports Cities rankings.

The Steel City dethroned 2008’s No. 1 Boston, which had finished atop the list three of the past five years but dropped to third, behind No. 2 Philadelphia, on the 2009 list. Rounding out the top 10 are No. 4 Chicago and No. 5 Los Angeles, No. 6 New York, No. 7 Phoenix, No. 8 Miami, No. 9 Dallas-Fort Worth and No. 10 Detroit.

“It’s been quite a year in Pittsburgh. Sports fans in Western Pennsylvania have had a lot to be proud of these last 12 months,” Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said, acknowledging the honor. “Pittsburgh truly is the City of Champions once again.”

This year’s list features 399 cities and towns in the United States and Canada, ranked based on a variety of factors, including each city’s number of teams and their regular-season won-lost records, playoff berths, bowl appearances and tournament bids, championships, applicable power ratings, attendance, fan fervor and more.

“Whether it’s the CEO of U.S. Steel or the guy running the body shop on he other side of the street, Pittsburgh’s people share a common bond with their sports teams,” Pitt football coach and Pittsburgh native Dave Wannstedt says.

A friend posted a video on his facebook page today. It is a Yotuube video of a local Pittsburgh musician singing about why he likes living in Pittsburgh. You see Lead singer of the Pittsburgh band "Jack to My Friends" Mark Fern is an Englishman and this song/video is a response to an oft-asked question regarding his move to Pittsburgh. Some real great shots of the city in the video.

A small note that the drummer in this band is Joe Waslousky who graduated from Montour High School with Frank Murgia of this blog and talent network, inc.

CBS Wins First Week Of TV Season On Strength Of "NCIS"

NEW YORK — CBS began the fall season with a bang, winning the first week overall, scoring the top-rated program and premiering the most-watched new show, according to Nielsen ratings figures released Tuesday.

CBS' veteran hit "NCIS" took the No. 1 spot, with its spinoff, "NCIS: Los Angeles," debuting in the runner-up position. Another new CBS drama, "The Good Wife," got a warm viewer welcome with a 15th-place ranking.

ABC's new Wednesday comedies "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town" did well, ranking 20th and 23rd, respectively, while that network's new thriller "FlashForward" nabbed 21st place with its premiere.

Other than football, NBC's top performers were its new hospital drama "Mercy" and long-running cop drama "Law & Order: SVU," which shared 38th place in viewer rankings.

Meanwhile, the infant season claimed its first victim among the new fall crop: The neglected melodrama "The Beautiful Life: TBL" was axed by the CW after just two airings.

For the week in prime time, CBS led with 11.77 million viewers (7.3 household rating, 12 share), with runner-up ABC averaging 11.04 million viewers (7.1 rating, 12 share). NBC was a distant third place with 7.56 million viewers (4.8 rating, 8 share), just ahead of Fox with 7.35 million viewers (4.3 rating, 7 share).

Today is the official start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every October, various breast cancer charities all over the world are campaigning to people to be more aware of the disease. These charities are also raising research funds for the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

According to Wikipedia:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) (also referred to locally as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM)) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.

The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was founded in 1985 by AstraZeneca, a pharmaceutical company and manufacturer of breast cancer drugs.

The pink ribbon is the symbol of breast cancer.

Three Bravo stars get solo series
'Housewives,' 'Runway,' 'Chef' alumni to be featured

Bravo is developing three new projects starring some of the cabler's recent breakout reality stars: Bethenny Frankel, Christian Siriano and Fabio Viviani.


Viviani will star in "Fabio: A Catered Affair," which will chronicle the challenges he faces as he and business partner Jacopo Falleni look to expand their restaurant and catering business in Los Angeles. Viviani was a "Top Chef" finalist in season five.

Fabio Viviani recently visited Pittsburgh for a book signing and cooking demo. Brought into town by Pittsburgh Entertainment Agency talent network, inc the visit was a great success. Look for another popular Bravo chef in Pittsburgh this November at a new Giant Eagle Market District location.

Jay Leno has fewer guests to choose from thanks to rival networks' boycott

ABC and CBS are discouraging their stars from appearing on the new prime-time talk show to keep it from undercutting their costly dramas. NBC says it's not concerned.

Despite a new prime-time perch and a larger audience, NBC comedian Jay Leno is fishing for guests from a substantially smaller pool of talent.

Rival networks ABC and CBS are discouraging their stars from appearing on the prime-time talk show. They are determined not to let Leno's 10 p.m. program undercut viewership of their costly dramas when they are trying to build audiences at the start of the TV season.

The boycott highlights an unintended consequence of NBC's decision to move the veteran late-night comedian into prime time: making it harder to book some TV stars whose appearances could boost Leno's ratings.
