Steelers Day-off Permission Slip
January312009
From Steeler Nation
By Steeler Nation
---
Pittsburgh’s tourism agency is offering “Won’t-Be-In-On-Time” permission slips for those too exhausted from the Super Bowl.
The permission slips, downloadable from VisitPittsburgh.com, say, “In celebration of the Pittsburgh Steelers appearance in Super Bowl XLIII, I hereby request permission to report late for work on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009.”
Ideally, you’d hand your boss the permission slip before the game. If your boss says “No,” then you can spread the rumor that he or she is a heartless pinhead who doesn’t recognize that the Steelers are the key thread in the black-and-gold fabric of our community.

Our Father,
Who Art in Pittsburgh,
Football Be Thy Game.
The Kingdom Come,
5 Super Bowls Won,
On Earth as it is in Heinz Field.
Give us this Day a playoff Victory,
And forgive us our penalties,
As we defeat those who play against us.
But lead us into a victory,
And deliver us to Tampa!
A-Ben.
Go STEELERS!

'Lost': 14 Enduring Mysteries
Will we get some answers to these unsolved questions over the course of the fifth season? (Don't hold your breath.) In the eventual series finale? We'd better....
WHAT IS THE MONSTER?

WHAT WE KNOW: It lives underground. It reads minds. It's very smoky. The Dharma Initiative may have called it Cerberus, named after the three-headed guard dog of Hell. And Ben may be able to control it.

'Twas the Night Before the Super Bowl
'Twas the night before the Super Bowl, when along the gulf shore,
Steelers fans were praying for "just one more;"
The players were nestled all snug in the sack,
With visions of the first NFL Six-Pack;
Coach Tomlin was young, but wise for his years,
So I drifted off to sleep without any fears;
When at the stadium there arose some strange chatter,
The Cardinals feared, what was the matter;
We heard "Okel Dokel", we heard "Double Yoi,"
We jumped from our beds, our hearts jumped for joy;
He stood at the fifty with a grin ear to ear,
Steelers fans everywhere started to cheer;
Then in an instant to our surprise,
This little old man had tears in his eyes;
He went to the booth and there took his chair,
While Terrible Towels waved in the air;
Then over the airwaves came his shrill voice,
The Steelers Nation began to rejoice;
He said, "I am back, but you know I can't stay,
I just had to see my Steelers play;
From my home up above, I have a great view,
But I wanted to celebrate here with you;
So bring on the Birds, we'll send them a flyin',
On the way back to Phoenix , they will be cryin';
Ben, Hines, Troy , Jeff and all of the rest,
No matter the outcome, to me you're the best;"
The airwaves went silent, the stadium still,
Was this just a dream, it seemed so real;
In our team we have faith, in our team we have hope,
But the game's not the same without Myron Cope;

President Obama a Steelers Fan.
January302008
From Associated Press
By CBS Sports.com
---
Obama rooting for Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama said he's pulling for the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Arizona Cardinals in football's biggest game on Sunday -- and he did so with a politician's touch.
Obama said Thursday that he would root for Pittsburgh against the "long-suffering" and "great Cinderella story" Cardinals. His spokesman also said the president would have friends as well as a bipartisan group of lawmakers over to the White House to watch the game.
"I have to say, you know, I wish the Cardinals the best," Obama said diplomatically. "You know, Kurt Warner is a great story, and he's closer to my age than anybody else on the field."
Warner, Arizona's 37-year-old quarterback, came out of nowhere about a decade ago to take the St. Louis Rams to two Super Bowls, including a title in 2000. Just when he seemed washed up, Warner rose to the top again this year with a stellar performance. His team was not expected to make the playoffs, let alone get to the title game.
Steelers owner Dan Rooney, a longtime Republican, endorsed Obama's presidential bid and campaigned for him. During Oval Office remarks, Obama noted that one of the Steelers most beloved former players, Franco Harris, had campaigned for him in Pittsburgh, too.
"Other than the (Chicago) Bears," Obama said, "the Steelers are probably the team that's closest to my heart."
Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said the invitation to watch the Super Bowl is part of the new administration's efforts to work across the political aisle, similar to his bipartisan cocktail party Wednesday night at the executive mansion.
"You know, the president also wanted last night to be a little bit more social, you know, so that individuals could better get to know each other and understand where they're coming from in these legislative disagreements," Gibbs told reporters Thursday. "But, again, you know, the president's outreach on this will continue."
During the pregame show, Obama also planned to participate in a live interview on NBC with Matt Lauer.
Vice President Joe Biden, a native of Scranton, Pa., also is cheering for the Steelers. He told CNBC that he's having a Super Bowl party at the vice president's residence "with some of our Republican and Democratic friends."
"I know you're supposed to be one of these guys that says I'm not sure," said Biden. "But I want to make clear, I'm rooting for the Steelers. Go, Mr. Rooney."

Curse Of The Terrible Towel
A Poem By Dave Crawley
There is power, they say, in the towels that wave.
Like black and gold shrouds on the visitor's grave.
It's a mojo opponents should never neglect.
The Terrible Towel requires respect.
Then this! A deed unspeakably foul!
The Tennessee Titans defile the towel!
Although their crass actions made Steeler fans wince,
You'll notice that Titan team hasn't won since.
They lost to the Colts. Then the Ravens came in,
A game Tennessee was expected to win.
But the curse of the towel gave Tennessee shakes,
As they sank in a series of stunning mistakes.
Our Black and Gold guys had a much different story.
Santonio Holmes led the gallop to glory.
Fast Willie scored, and the Steelers were winning.
For the Chargers the torment was only beginning.
Third quarter. Alas, on the Bolts' only play,
Foote gives them the boot, and he takes it away.
The towels were twirling as Ben let it go,
And the much maligned offense was starting to flow.
That towel brings sorcery into the fray.
If you don't believe it, well, check out this play.
To add to the Chargers' grim feelings of dread,
A punt that careened off this poor fellow's head.
The message, of course, as we hooted with glee,
From the Terrible Towel: Do not tread on me.
A word to the Ravens. The moment draws nigh.
This is the reason you're still flying high.
The Titans besmirched it, and now to our glee
They will be watching this game on TV.
As you enter the confines where Steeler fans howl:
BEWARE OF THE CURSE OF THE TERRIBLE TOWEL!

Kelly Clarkson Jumps 97 Spots to Number 1.

From HollyScoop.com

Kelly Clarkson Breaks Billboard Hot 100 Record
Kelly Clarkson has just set a huge record for herself with her latest song My Life Would Suck Without You. The song just made history of Billboard’s Hot 100 by making the biggest leap to #1. By tomorrow, January 29th, the song will be the first one to make the massive leap from #97 to #1.
It’s sold 280,000 digital downloads in its first week on the radio! The song that comes the closest to this feat is Womanizer. It also jumped from 58-38 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart and 27-18 on the Mainstream Top 40 list. But before that, Kelly Clarkson held the record for A Moment Like This, which jumped from #52-#1 on the charts.
My Life holds #1 spot on the Digital Chart with 279,605 sold in its first week. This is the 3rd biggest digital song debut for a female artist.
This just proves how much American Idol has changed. Kelly Clarkson is still a major player in the music industry
, where as the more recent former Idols aren’t as a significant part of the game. Ok, Carrie Underwood excluded! But she’s more country than mainstream. So when it comes to pop, Kelly is still queen!

Steelers Aaron Smith Learns From ill Son.
January262009
From Tampa Bay.com

Son's fight with leukemia holds lessons for Pittsburgh Steelers' Aaron Smith
PITTSBURGH — It is a father's job to teach.
And so Aaron Smith sits his 4-year-old son down, and pulls out paper and pen. First, he draws a circle. Smooth, neat and clean. And then he draws a second circle with squiggly lines and imperfections.
He explains to Elijah the second circle is abnormal and needs to be replaced. That it needs to be removed to make room for more of the clean circles. The lesson is neither technical, nor quite anatomically correct, but it will suffice for now.
Ten days before the Super Bowl, and the Steelers locker room is a madhouse.
One player chases another out the door and into a hallway where a staff member tells them to knock it off. Pictures making fun of placekicker Jeff Reed's shocking head of peroxide hair are pinned to the bulletin board. An offensive lineman kicks a soccer ball around the room before stopping to do a mangled cartwheel — all while nude.
Meanwhile, it is quiet near the locker of 32-year-old defensive end Aaron Smith. Just an empty chair and a copy of the Samson Syndrome, a book that suggests physical strength is less important than spiritual strength.
Nowhere in sight, Smith could be in the trainer's room. He might be in one of the meeting rooms. Or, perhaps, he is finding out more about All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, because doctors have told him that's where he needs to go if something happens to Elijah during the family's trip to the Super Bowl this week.
It has been a little more than three months since Smith and his wife, Jaimie, took Elijah to a children's hospital in Pittsburgh because he couldn't shake a cold. They were concerned a virus might have embedded itself in his chest.
Two hours after they arrived, they were taken into the office of an oncologist.
"How much do you know about leukemia?" the doctor began.
It felt as if the floor had collapsed beneath them. Their lives had been irretrievably changed at that moment, and everything they had felt certain of was now in doubt.

SAG Awards Let Actors Like Tina, Kate & Sean Mingle and Win
It was a big celebratory dinner party for Hollywood's finest last night as actors of TV and movies came together for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Both the women and the men brought some excitement on the red carpet, but when they got inside it was all about mingling between awards. Brad and Angelina stayed in their seats other than when he was presenting Button as an ensemble cast nominee, but kept the smiles big for whenever the cameras panned their way. They were in better spirits than the red carpet at least. Penelope Cruz snuggled up to Meryl Streep who walked away with a statue while John Krasinski hung out with Josh Brolin and Steve Carell — let us know what you think about the winners here.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler posed together. An emotional Gary Oldman accepted the award on behalf of Heath Ledger who earned another win. Otherwise, Katie Holmes looked fantastic presenting her award and we're always happy to see Mad Men recognized. In that same vein, yay for Slumdog Millionaire, which was the night's big winner, which bodes well for next month's Oscars.
To see a lot more from the show and backstage including Rosario Dawson, Jon Hamm, Hugh Laurie, Marisa Tomei, Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn and many others just read more at PopSugar.com which is always the best site for awards show coverage and photos.
