Fireworks Ready To Fly For Pittsburgh's Birthday Bash

Pittsburgh's planning a major celebration in honor of its bi-sesquicentennial -- also known as the city's 250th birthday. One of the highlights of the bash will be a weekend fireworks spectacular. The Zambelli family started unloading the fireworks onto barges on the Ohio river on Tuesday. Some 3000 shells on seven different barges are planned for Saturday's display, launched from 17 different positions across the city. Three barges were loaded on Tuesday, but WTAE's Sheldon Ingram reports they ran out and had to get more and will finish loading the barges on Wednesday.

The show's executive producer says that's more than any other fireworks show in the country and that the goal is to make the display look like a birthday cake.Zambelli will be loading the barges throughout the week, wrapping up in time for Saturday night's show: "Imagine Pittsburgh Fireworks Spectacular," which starts at 10 p.m. For a complete list of Saturday's events, click here You can watch the show WTAE-TV Channel 4 directly following Channel 4 Action News at 11 o'clock.As part of Pittsburgh's birthday plans, ABC's "Good Morning America" will broadcast live from Pittsburgh's North Shore on Friday to celebrate the city's 250th anniversary. Meteorologist Sam Champion will be on the riverfront near North Shore Drive and Heinz Field. It's all open to the public, and it will air live on WTAE Channel 4 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.GMA starts immediately following Channel 4 Action News This Morning from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Champion will also appear on that newscast.
