Country Music's new Crossover stars have charted number one in consecutive weeks. Last week Jessica Simpson's First Country Album "Do You Know" debuted at No. 1. And this Week Darius Rucker, best known as the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish, has the No. 1 country album and the No. 1 country single in Billboard magazine this week. "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" was the lead single from his first solo album, Learn to Live, which was released by Capitol Nashville on Sept. 16.

Before this week, only two black singers had topped the country singles charts: Ray Charles and Charley Pride. Now, Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker joins that exclusive list, as his Don't Think I Don't Think About It goes No. 1 on USA TODAY's country singles airplay chart.

NETWORK NOTE..
Rucker has always been one of my favorite voices. This is very deserving for a very talented person whose career seemed to be destroyed by the over-played, over-hyped backlash on Hootie & The Blowfish. A Black man with one of the most soulful voices of all-time crossing into the country genre is going to be huge. It starts now with debuting at number one and will end with many, many Country Music Awards. This kind of talent and professionalism is what country wants and is. The loyal country fans are welcoming a man and a sound that creates and attaches itself to memories of things and times in your lives that good. Rucker's songs do that. I can name five Blowfish songs and the memories that go with them paint a picture in my head that brings a smile to my face. I am personally excited to see Darius Rucker rise from the ashes and into the arms of the country culture. -Frank Murgia.
