Owen Wilson's Suicide Attempt linked to Kate Hudson?

Owen Wilson speaks

Owen Wilson has finally released a statement but doesn't shed any light on the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization: "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

Meanwhile, reports have left shocked fans wondering what went wrong. (Both Star and the National Enquirer are claiming that a family member found him after he allegedly attempted to take his own life.)

A source tells E! Online’s Planet Gossip Show co-host Tina Dirmann that the Kate Hudson breakup hit Owen really hard and he seemed to "fall into a funk" afterward. "In fact, we weren't even sure if that's why he seemed kind of down, because he just didn't open up," says the source. "But we assumed it was part of whatever he was dealing with, because that's when he seemed to kind of change."

Owen's absence was also noted around town. "He's been basically MIA all summer long," says Dirmann. Some of this can be chalked up to a recent trip to Saint-Tropez, but even while he was in L.A., Owen kept a low profile—skipping the Malibu beach scene and parties that were attended by his brother Luke.

Whatever happened, we wish him the best and hope to see him on his feet soon.

It was no laughing matter for Owen Wilson over the weekend.

The big-screen funnyman was hospitalized just after noon on Sunday after Santa Monica police officers responded to a medical aid call at the actor's home. The reason for and severity of his hospitalization has not been disclosed, though tabloid reports have been swirling that the actor attempted to commit suicide.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released through his publicist, Ina Treciokas.

Cynthia Harding, a spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, confirmed that Wilson had been transferred to the facility late Sunday night after first checking into St. John's Health Center and that he is currently "in good condition."

While the actor's reps have yet to comment on the nature of the hospitalization, the 38-year-old blond thesp's brothers, Luke and Andrew Wilson, along with his parents, were all spotted at Cedars-Sinai Sunday night.

The Santa Monica Police Department issued a statement over the weekend stating simply that Santa Monica Fire Department paramedics answered a "medical aid call" at 12:10 p.m. Sunday at a Santa Monica home and that "a person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated."

The actual 911 call of the incident has not been released.

While the address of the home was also not confirmed, People reported that the home paramedics responded to is indeed owned by Wilson.

Star and the National Enquirer, meanwhile, have gone even further. While Wilson's reps have so far opted not to comment on the media speculation—failing to confirm whether the actor was even home at the time of the call, let alone been hospitalized—the tabloids are claiming that Wilson was admitted to St. John's hospital Sunday afternoon after attempting suicide.

The publications also jointly report that Wilson was transferred from St. John's to another hospital later in the day.

Wilson's reps have not commented on any aspect of the tabloids' report.

Wilson is next due to hit the big screen in The Darjeeling Limited, directed by frequent collaborator Wes Anderson. The flick is due to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month, where it will screen in competition. According to IMDb.com, Wilson is also currently in the midst of shooting Tropic Thunder, a comedy directed by frequent costar and pal Ben Stiller. His next release, "Darjeeling," is about to embark on the fall festival circuit before Fox Searchlight releases it Sept. 29.

Dream Works declined comment on whether the actor is expected to take part in "Thunder" or whether his cameo role could be recast. An ensemble comedy about actors who find themselves in the middle of a war, the film is being directed by Ben Stiller and also stars Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. A Dream Works spokesman would only say, "Filming on 'Tropic Thunder' continues."

Wilson will next appear onscreen alongside Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman in Wes Anderson's "Darjeeling," the tale of three brothers traveling together through India. Following a screening at the Venice Film Festival, the film will play in the opening-night slot at the New York Film Festival.

Whether the actor will participate in any of the activities surrounding the film's opening remains to be seen, but Treciokas said Wilson already had completed long-lead press commitments on behalf of the film and "he's always committed to and supports his projects."

Wilson has a second project awaiting release, Paramount Pictures' "Drillbit Taylor," a comedy from producer Judd Apatow, which is scheduled for March 21. In early 2008, he also is scheduled to film Fox 2000's "Marley & Me," co-starring with Jennifer Aniston.
